THE IMPORTANCE OF SELF CARE AND A LIST OF 50 WAYS TO PRACTICE IT!

Hello babes!

This weeks blog post is all about self care! We feel that this is such an important topic that everyone should know about and be practicing daily. 

It's no doubt that the year 2020 was an eye opening experience for many people all over the world due to COVID-19. Aside from our usual day to day stress such as sitting in traffic, dealing with family conflicts, being critical over our bodies and so much more, a worldwide unexpected pandemic hit to add on top of our already busy and somewhat stressful lives. 

This is why we wanted to talk to you about the importance of self care. In our opinion; self care means taking the time out of your day to do something nice for yourself or others. This could be something small such as a treating yourself to your favourite coffee on your way to work, or unwinding with a bubble bath and your favourite book. Nonetheless, self care will look different for all of us depending on what we enjoy, and what we can fit into our schedules. 

Below you will find a list of 50 ways to practice self care! Use this list as a reminder to treat yourself to the kind love that you deserve!

Are you ready? Here we go!

  1. At any point in your day, take a few deep breaths and think of three things that you're thankful for. 
  2. Listen to your favourite album or song to liven up your mood or soothe you.
  3. Wear your favourite outfit that makes you feel confident or sexy!
  4. Use your favourite skincare products and treat your face to the glory and pampering it so deserves!
  5. Cozy up with your favourite book, or a book you've been wanting to read, while wearing some warm cozy socks. A hot beverage is always a nice touch too!
  6. Call a Friend or Family member that you haven't spoken to in a while and catch up. Be sure to remind them that you're thankful for the relationship!
  7. Do some online shopping for a few items that you've had your eye on for a while. This should be done in moderation and if you have the finances to do so!
  8. Listen to a guided meditation to help soothe your mind and put your thoughts as rest for a moment. 
  9. Play your favourite playlist on youtube and dance around your bedroom! Dancing is good for the soul!
  10. Cuddle your pet and tell them you love them! Animals are a great source of comfort, especially when it comes to cuddles! 
  11. Make yourself your favourite meal! Cooking our favourite foods can bring us comfort and happiness!
  12. Try out a new hairstyle! You may just fall in love with it. 
  13. Treat yourself to a massage. Getting a massage from a professional can be very relaxing and help you unwind.
  14. Go for a walk. While you're walking you can listen to your favourite songs, or just enjoy the sound of the nature around you. Find the beauty on this earth, and enjoy the moment. 
  15. Exercise. This has been proven to make many people feel good, although some won't see this as self care, exercise is really good for the body and soul. 
  16. Do your makeup. Have you ever just done your makeup for fun? It can really boost your confidence and give you a chance to practice new looks without the pressure of having to go out. No expectations, no worries. 
  17. Paint paint paint. Painting can be very therapeutic and relaxing. Have some fun and release the inner child or artist! Let the canvas allow you to get your creative juices flowing. 
  18. Take a nice hot shower. This is a great way to practice self care because many of us shower daily already. But try visualizing yourself in the shower washing off any negative self thoughts you may have about yourself. Its quite soothing watching the soap drip away the negativity down the drain! 
  19. Paint your nails or give yourself a manicure/ pedicure. This can be very relaxing and also make you feel beautiful looking at your nice new nails the next day!
  20. Watch a funny movie! Most of us love a good laugh especially while watching movies. Put on Netflix, Amazon Prime, or sometimes Youtube also has full length movies (shhh). Get a good laugh in! 
  21. Journaling. This is a powerful tool to help you get in tuned with yourself. you can write about anything! From your goals, feelings, or places you wish to travel. The power is in your hands, literally!
  22. Try out yoga. This can actually end up being really fun as yoga tends to have some very interesting poses. Try something new! You can follow along with Youtube videos!
  23. Go for a relaxing drive. Many people love to just go for a drive, listen to their favourite songs, and just enjoying the moment. 
  24. Treat yourself to dessert! A little something sweet is always a great pick me up. Of course all in moderation :)
  25. Actually take your breaks at work! Don't let your job take up all your free time. You do deserve a break especially if your working more then 6-8 hours! be sure to take the time you're allowed, and enjoy it. 
  26. Go to bed early. Sometimes we naturally tend to stay up late, and have to wake up early. We all know how it feels to have a lack of sleep! Go to bed!
  27. Declutter your phone. Do you really need all the apps and photos that you have on there? What about old texts from 2019? Clearing our your phone allows room for new memories. Out with the old and in with the new!
  28. Make a smoothie! Smoothies are great ways to get a ton of fruits and veggies in one shot, which of course is great for your body. Enjoy and indulge!
  29. Don't be afraid to say no if something does not feel right. You have the power within you, and you know yourself better than anyone else. 
  30. Learn something new. This can be very therapeutic and different from the normal daily routines we can fall into. You can learn a couple of new words from another language, try a new recipe, it can be anything!
  31. Listen to a podcast or audiobook. These can sometimes hold very powerful messages that can really inspire you and uplift you! Ted talks are great as well!
  32. Put the phone away. This seems to be quite a challenge these days but hey, we used to live in a world with no phones (well some of us anyways). It's okay to put it away and be present and in the moment. 
  33. Have a cozy comfy day! This is a day where you wear comfortable clothes all day and just relax and unwind. This is needed once in a while and its okay. 
  34. Pay it forward! This means doing something nice for someone else. It could be paying for the persons coffee in front of you or holding the door for someone behind you. 
  35. Clean you bedroom. I know this sounds like a chore, but in reality a clean bedroom can actually uplift your spirit and make you feel less "heavy" or "frazzled". 
  36. Write down 3 goals that you want to achieve in the next week, month or year. This feels really good as you can visualize them, and with some effort possibly make them come true! 
  37. Donate old clothes or shoes to a charity. When we have things we are not using anymore, it can feel really good to give them away to someone who may love it!
  38. Look at old baby photos of yourself and your Family (the feel good memories only of course). It can feel nice to reminisce and remember the old times. 
  39. Drink more water! Staying hydrated has so many benefits, start to drink your required amount of water daily!
  40. Meditate. This is an amazing way to just focus on the present moment and your breathing. 
  41. Do a social media cleanse. If you're following people who do not make you feel good, or serve your mind well, unfollow them, block them, get rid of them! You don't need that in your life!
  42. Text your Friends or Family members three things you love about them. Brightening up someones else day can raise your vibration and make you feel good!
  43. Go to the park and play. Okay this may sound silly for some but theirs something about releasing that inner child that can feel really good!
  44. Burn your favourite candle and enjoy the sweet aroma.
  45.  Cuddle with a loved one. Don't be afraid to show the person you care about a little bit of love and affection. 
  46. Change your bedsheets and towels. Fresh bedding and clean towels can really feel so good! Are we lying?! Change those sheets and snuggle in bed with your favourite show!
  47. Brush your cat or dog. Most pets love to be brushed and seeing their little happy faces, can only warm your heart!
  48. Play a board game with a Friend, Spouse, or Family! This is really good for disconnecting with our phones, and reconnecting with some good old games and laughs!
  49. Take a nap. Yup you read that right. Sometimes we're just tired during the day and we need to listen to our bodies and rest. 
  50. Follow positive uplifting accounts on your social media! This is a great way to get doses of positivity in during your day!
